Portela

Procurei que o meu levantamento da Portela fosse uma reflexão sobre a paisagem, rejeitando a ideia de simples documento descritivo do bairro.

Comecei por tirar partido do carácter racionalista e massificado do bairro, que constitui uma utopia, dentro de um certo quadro ideológico comum na época em que foi concebido, que entretanto caiu em desuso.

Para tal usei imagens quase panfletárias, como a da Rua do Brasil,  a do Centro Comercial e as do Jardim Almeida Garrett, que contrapus a outras da periferia do bairro, com paisagens mais ou menos caóticas - remetendo para a ideia de declínio da cidade idílica.

Cruzei esta ideia com outro tipo de registro, destruindo a aparente homogeneidade e massificação da paisagem - resultante do carácter geométrico das ruas e da matriz tipológica comum a todos edifícios de habitação. Nesse sentido, repeti o mesmo enquadramento em várias imagens, reflectindo a paisagem comum - dois edifícios de habitação que convergem para um ponto de fuga central. No centro da imagem coloquei elementos diversos, demonstrando que paisagens similares têm  variações subtis que lhes conferem uma identidade própria, que as humaniza.

Por ultimo, fotografei repetidamente a Ponte Vasco da Gama, também presente no meu levantamento do Parque das Nações, por ser um marco importante na paisagem da Portela.

I made my survey of  Portela has a reflection on the landscape, rejecting the idea of a simple document describing the neighborhood.

I started by taking advantage of the rationalist and massive character of the neighborhood, which is an utopia within an ideology that was common at the time in which it was designed,  and latter fell into disuse.

For this I used images almost pamphleteering as the Rua do  Brasil, the Mall and the Garden Almeida Garrett, countered by  the periphery of the neighborhood, that were rather chaotic bringing the idea of decline to this idyllic location .

I crossed it with a different record, destroying the apparent homogeneity and massive character of the landscape, resulting from the geometric nature of the streets and typological matrix common to all residential buildings. In this set I repeated the same framework on several images reflecting a common landscape of two residential buildings that converge to a central vanishing point. In the center of the image I put several elements, demonstrating that similar landscapes have subtle variations that give them their own identity, humanizing them.

Finally, I photographed repeatedly Ponte Vasco da Gama, also presented in my survey of Parque das Nações, because its an important landmark in the landscape of Portela.
