Encarnação

Entre os prédios altos e modernos dos Olivais e o Aeroporto de Lisboa surge um bairro com um carácter díspar. Como no levantamento da Portela apercebo-me que mais do que um bairro estou perante um exercício ideológico, que se expressa através da arquitectura. Na Encarnação as moradias de dois pisos com a igreja ao centro parecem remeter para uma utopia de cidade em que o bairro têm um carácter quase rural, de natureza idílica. Percebe-se pertencer a uma fatia temporal diferente dos bairros que a cercam. Alias toda a Zona Oriental de Lisboa que fotografei até agora, apresenta uma convivência extraordinária entre diferentes camadas arqueológicas e ideológicas do planeamento urbano do século XX, em diferentes bairros de intervenção estatal .
Nessa perspectiva salientei a disparidade de paisagens entre a Encarnação e os Olivais em várias imagens que têm uma dimensão poética, explorando a convivência de uma camada temporal com outra, mantendo os bairros a sua identidade própria.
Reflecti também na forma o seu plano geométrico traçado pelo arquitecto se molda ao declive do terreno, dando dimensão material a um desenho abstracto. Para tal fotografei o declive das ruas, bem como as escadarias de acesso à Rua Quinta da Fonte que quase marcam a entrada formal no bairro, vindo dos Olivais Sul.
Usei três tipos de plano nas imagens, panorâmico, intermédio e de pormenor. Um dos objectivos foi evitar que se instituísse a monotonia nas imagens, visto as ruas e moradias serem muito semelhantes umas às outras. Outra preocupação foi com estes planos mostrar as diferentes dimensões espaciais comuns ao bairro, a Alameda, o arruamento e o quintal, actualmente transformado em garagem.

Among the tall and modern buildings of Olivais and Lisbon’s Airport there is a neighbourhood with a disparate nature. As when studding Portela I realize that more than a neighbourhood, Encarnação stands as an ideological exercise, expressed through architecture. Its townhouses of two floors with the church in the centre seem to refer to a utopian city in witch the neighbourhood has an almost rural character of idyllic nature. We fell that it belongs to a different time slice of the neighbourhoods that surround it. All the Eastern Zone of Lisbon that I photographed so far presents an extraordinary harmony between different archaeological layers of thought and ideology of urban twentieth century design, present in the different districts of state intervention.

From this perspective I pointed out the disparity between the landscape of Encarnação and Olivais in several images that I felt having a poetic dimension, in witch I exploited the coexistence of a temporal layer to another, keeping witch  neighbourhood is own identity.

I reflected also on how the plan drawn by the architect grabs the slope of the terrain, giving a material dimension to an abstract design. I photographed the slope of the streets and the staircases for access to the central square of the neighbourhood that is almost a mark of the formal entry into the neighbourhood, coming from Olivais Sul.

I used three types of images in the plan, panoramic, intermediate and detail. One of the objectives was to avoid monotony, since the streets and houses are very similar to each other. Another of my concern was that these plans should show the different spatial dimensions common to the neighbourhood, the plain street, the Alameda garden, and the yard that is now replaced by the garage.
